Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

When Mo reads aloud from a book, the characters inside it come to life. Inkheart (F FUN 1) is the story of he and his daughter Meggie and their encounter with the ignoble Capricorn and his men.

Inkheart is a fast paced book that is easy to read, and is very well translated from it’s original language: German. It is fantasy, but set mainly in the real world. It not only has an engaging plot, but also focuses on the importance of love, family and the joys and dangers of reading. There is an interesting range of characters who fit into neither category of good or bad. A book recommended for younger readers or those who like fantasy, but who are also looking for a plot that is original and engaging. (Eilidh)
